Google revealed the Year in Search 2022, a compilation of lists–trends, news, personalities, shows, and more–that Filipinos searched for this year.
In the Overall Top Trending Searches in the Philippines, Halalan 2022 grabbed the No. 1 spot as Filipinos search for information about the May 2022 elections including their precincts, voting resources and results. Related to this is “precinct finder,” which took the No. 3 spot.
VaxCertPH, pertaining to the Covid-19 vaccination certificate, placed second overall and remained in the top list for the second straight year. The certificate that proves a person is vaccinated against COVID-19 has become a requirement for travel and face-to-face engagements.
In 2021, VaxCertPH landed fourth in the list. In 2022, as the world accelerated into a post-pandemic era, VaxCertPH moved up two places to occupy the second spot.
The top 10 also revealed Filipinos’ love for Korean dramas. Netflix’s Korean zombie series “All of Us Are Dead,” which was released in January 2022, is No. 5 overall.
The online game Wordle is No. 4 and Axie Infinity is No. 9. Warriors vs Celtics is No. 6 followed by Ukraine at No. 7, Encanto at No. 8 and Jeffrey Dahmer, the late American serial killer whose life is a subject of a Netflix series, is No. 10.
According to the e-Conomy SEA Report, online content consumption–especially streaming–is the third biggest digital activity of Filipinos after e-commerce and food delivery. The study revealed that 58 percent of Filipinos regularly watch video-on-demand shows and movies.
Under the trending searches for Korean series in the Philippines, “All of Us Are Dead” is No. 1 followed by Park Eun-bin’s hit drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo,” “Business Proposal,” “Alchemy of Souls,” “Twenty-Five Twenty-One,” “Big Mouth,” “Our Beloved Summer,” “Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area,” “Sh**ting Stars” and “Happiness.”
For the trending searches for male personalities among Filipinos, Ricci Rivero and Johnny Depp grabbed the first two places.
“All of Us Are Dead” star Park Solomon, or Lomon, placed third while K-drama “Business Proposal” actor Ahn Hyo-seop is No. 7.
