Woman nabbed for paying fake money to taxi

A woman was arrested by the police for using alleged counterfeit money to pay her taxi fare on Dec. 7 in Taguig. 

The suspect, identified as Elizabeth de Roxas, 40, was caught by Taguig police at Gate 3 on Chino Roces Extension in Barangay Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

Complainant Jefrey Andrino, 39, said De Roxas rode his taxi in Malibay, Pasay going to Gate 3 in Taguig. 

When they arrived at her destination, she handed over a P1,000 bill to the taxi driver but upon examination of the money, he discovered it was fake. 

She hurriedly asked him for her change of P850 but the taxi driver refused and gave back her money. The suspect went to a nearby convenience store to change the money but was unsuccessful. 

De Roxas tried to pay the taxi driver again using the same money that led to an argument. Andrino asked for assistance from Taguig Police Substation 1, resulting in the discovery of the counterfeit money and arrest of the suspect. 

She is detained at the Taguig City Police Station while a complaint for using counterfeit money is being prepared against her. 

“We remind the public to carefully inspect any money received to prevent from getting victimized by counterfeit money. Inspect the security features of the true money including the security thread and watermark,” said Southern Police District chief Brig. Gen. John Brion Kraft. 

He added that more counterfeit money is expected to come out during the Christmas season.
