Tech firm CEO sees bullish post-pandemic growth for IT industry

The chief executive officer of a tech firm has projected a bullish growth for the Information Technology (IT) after the Covid-19 pandemic comes to an end.

“We are expecting the IT industry to grow further,” said Jimmy Go, president and CEO of VST ECS Phils. Inc., the country’s leading IT distributor, at the sidelines of the 2022 CXO Innovation Summit the company hosted in Boracay Island recently.

“In general, the IT industry was not badly hit by the pandemic. Sales were very strong. People were rushing to buy laptops. People were rushing to buy tablets. People were rushing to buy (new) smartphones,” Go told Manila Bulletin in a sit-down interview.

With the summit theme “Modernization in the Era of Digital Economy,” Go emphasized that the Covid-19 pandemic pushed the management of old-school businesses to adopt a digital economy.

“Of course, there is still resistance for those who are not ready yet. But this will gradually change over time. That’s where the future is headed,” Go said.

Go said digital platforms will co-exist with traditional business infrastructures.

He said the summit was very successful in bringing together some of the world’s biggest tech companies and IT experts in the face-to-face resumption of VST ECS’ annual summit. The 2020 and 2021 editions were online due to pandemic travel restrictions.

“There were lots of realizations and learnings and how we can navigate the future,” Go said.

Among the topics in the summit were cyber security, cyber intelligence, modern data resilience strategy, and the growth of cloud.

Among the tech companies in the summit were Adobe, Aruba, APC by Schneider Electric, Cisco, Dell, Fortinet, Huawei, Lenovo, Microsoft Philippines, Oracle Philippines, Trend Micro, VMware, and Yugabyte.
