The country’s crime rate dramatically decreased by 72.33 percent from July to Sept. this year, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ Abalos Jr. disclosed on Thursday, Dec. 8.
In a statement read by DILG Director Marlo Guanzon during a press briefing, Abalos pointed specifically to the country’s lessened incidents of murder, rape, robbery and carnapping in the said period.
Through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration (E-CLIP), Abalos noted that the national government had helped 1,100 FR ‘get back in the fold of the society since July 1.’
With numerous disasters hitting the country, Abalos stated that the national government had interjected ‘disaster response’ among its priorities.
“We have mobilized our prepared assets and personnel from the LGUs (local government units), PNP (Philippine National Police) and BFP (Bureau of Fire Protection) such as during the earthquake in Northern Luzon last July and typhoon Karding in Luzon last Sept.,’’ Abalos said.
With regard to the Covid-19 response, Abalos said that the national government has ramped up the country’s vaccination campaign with 73,790,445 individuals having completed the primary doses while 21,000,000 others have been injected with the booster doses as of Dec. 5.
Abalos also cited the 350 LGUs that have gotten the ‘Seal of Good Governance’ this year which is the ‘most coveted award for their exemplary performance that responds to the call of times.’’
Despite some challenges, Abalos pointed out that the country’s economy has started to progress in the midst of the hardest to resolve problems like illegal drugs.
“We envision a nation in which no life is lost because of drugs,’’ Abalos continued. (Chito A. Chavez)
