PSHS-SOCCSKSARGEN students dominate Singapore robotics tilt, bag 6 awards


Students as well as their coach from the Philippine Science High School - South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos (SOCCSKSARGEN) Region Campus (PSHS-SRC) in Koronadal City bagged six awards in the Robotics Innovation Challenge (RIC) 2022 in Singapore.

Held on December 3 to 4, the RIC is a notable competition in the region for youth robotics, jointly organized by National University of Singapore (NUS) schools and professors. RIC aims to promote and enhance problem-solving skills among youth, from critical thinking to solution optimization.

The trio of Nyvelle Leanna Brillantes, Frenchie Mae Sembrano, and Jeann Frances Khristy Pe won as champion while the tandem of Justin Barnett Teng and Cliff Chatto II landed as second runner-up in the SUMOBOT category. Engr. Kevin Daga-as served as coach.

A total of 100 teams with 150+ participants from Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, and China joined RIC 2022.

Teng and Chatto clinched the first runner-up award while Brillantes, Sembrano, and Pe became second runner-up in the mountaineering robot category.

Also, Teng and Chatto won as second runner-ups in the general area and sprinting categories.
