Marcos wants shift to renewables; 'We must start now'

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is bent on shifting to renewable energy even if it would take time and beyond his term.

Marcos made the statement during the 11th Arangkada Philippines forum on Tuesday, Dec. 6 as he touched on the concerns and opportunities for foreign businesses in this country.

"ven the renewables take time, all the powerplant takes six, seven years to build but we will begin with," he said.

"And I’m not concerned whether or not they will come online in my term, but I think that whenever they come online, we have to start now," he added.

The President said the issues on energy are "more ticklish" and keeps coming up. But he assured that the government is working on it.

"A more ticklish problem is that of energy which is another one that keeps coming up and especially with the volatility in the markets now especially when it comes to fuel that is become an even more severe problem than it used to be. But we are working on it," Marcos said.

He further said that resolving energy problem is a long-term program in terms of supply, especially in the midst of the country's commitments to the international community to move the mix from traditional fossil fuels to renewables.
