DOH logs fewer than 1,000 Covid-19 cases

The Department of Health (DOH) recorded less than 1,000 cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

There were 883 more cases detected, bringing the number of active infections nationwide to 17,481, the DOH said.

According to the DOH, the National Capital Region recorded the most cases in recent 14 days with 5,152.

It was followed by Calabarzon with 2,041; Central Luzon with 1,061; Western Visayas with 932; and Central Visayas with 829.

The country's cumulative tally of cases now reached 4,042,936. This includes 3,960,685 recoveries and 64,770 fatalities.

In a related development, the number of Omicron subvariant BQ.1 cases in the country rose to 17.

The DOH said the additional case of BQ.1 was a local case from Western Visayas.

The DOH said there were 126 samples that were sequenced last Nov. 21 to Dec. 3.

It noted that "65 (51.59 percent) were classified as Omicron BA.2.3.20, two (1.59 percent) as BA.5 (including one classified as BQ.1, a subvariant of BA.5), 42 (33.33 percent) as XBB, two (1.59 percent) as XBC, and six (4.76 percent) as other Omicron subvariants."
