Mauritania eyes investments in PH

Mauritania is considering investing in the Philippines as it takes pride in its professional training and agricultural skills, which it can share with the country.

During a courtesy call with President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Monday, Malacañang said newly-installed Mauritania Ambassador to the Philippines Samba Mamadou expressed interest in meeting with Filipino businessmen to see how his country can expand its opportunities.

This came as the African nation is trying to diversify its cooperation with countries outside its list of traditional partners.

Mamadou particularly cited his country's rich mineral resources, such as coal, copper and plutonium as well as gas.

The President responded by saying that the government is already preparing a list of Filipino businessmen who could invest in Mauritania.

"I think in terms of the economy in the Philippines, the biggest change in policy of this government from the last and previous ones, you see we are opening up the economy to partnerships," he said.

He also told Mamadaou that looking for other energy sources is one of the government's top priorities amid the current world condition.
