850 all-male draftees take oath to undergo PCG training

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) facilitated Monday, Dec. 5, the oath taking of 850 draftees who will undergo a six-month training to become full-fledged Coast Guardians after successfully passing the initial screening and selection process.

Adm. Artemio Abu, PCG Commandant, dared the draftees, who are composed of all males, to prove themselves of being worthy to wear the PCG’s uniform by surpassing all the physical trainings, lectures, and drills during their enlistment.

“I look forward to the day that you complete the training and earn the right to wear the Coast Guard uniform,” Abu said.

“I hope that you will prove yourself to be a valuable addition to our force and a reliable public servant,” he added.

The draftees took their oath at the Coast Guard Fleet Parade Ground in Pier 13, Manila with BRP Melchora Aquino (MRRV-9702), one of the newest and largest PCG vessels, docked in the area.

The draftees will be trained at the PCG Regional Training Center in Zamboanga and their convening ceremony will be held on Dec. 28.

This is the final oath taking of the PCG draftees for 2022. Currently, the PCG has a total personnel of 25,000, according to Abu.
