5 Filipinos receive TOFIL 2022 Award for outstanding contribution toward uplifting PH society

Five Filipinos received honor and commendation from the Junior Chamber International Senate Philippines (JCISP), The Outstanding Filipino Foundation (TOFIL), and Affiliated Network for Social Accountability Foundation for their "exemplary and noteworthy contributions towards the upliftment of Philippine society."

TOFIL 2022 awardees were:

- SM Prime Holdings Executive Committee Chairman Hans T. Sy (Business and Resilience) for his significant role in the growth of Philippine mall culture while heading towards green and sustainable architecture.

- Dr. Ruben Villareal (Agricultural Science) for paving the way toward a better understanding and appreciation of plant sciences, especially in the field of corn propagation.

Villareal has been in the field of agricultural science for over six decades.

Among his major contributions are spearheading the efforts in developing heat tolerance for vegetable crops in tropical countries and growing heat-resistant tomato varieties.

- Chief Public Attorney Dr. Persida Rueda Acosta (Justice and Law) for her initiative in providing accessible and relevant services to underprivileged clients.

Acosta has been the chief of the Public Attorneys Office since Feb. 23, 2001, she was appointed by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

- Engr. Maria Catalina Cabral (Government and Public Service) for pioneering unified and inclusive projects through various sectors.

Cabral is the current undersecretary for Planning and Public-Private Partnership Services of the Department of Public Works and Highways.

- Renowned muralist and sculptor Nemesio Miranda, Jr. (Visual Arts and Sculpture) for launching and participating in more than 100 local and international art exhibitions.

He is also known as "The Father of Imaginative Figurism" and a reputable advocate of local arts in his hometown in Angono, Rizal.

TOFIL Awards is an annual awarding ceremony for exemplary Filipino men and women over 41 years of age.

It was created in 1988 to "institutionalize public acknowledgment of exceptional Filipino individuals."
