Police arrested a drunk driver of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) who was involved in a road accident that left four individuals injured along Quezon Avenue, Quezon City, on Saturday, Dec. 3.
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) identified the suspect as Royce Steven Lorente Robles, 21, of Malate, Manila.
The QCPD Traffic Enforcement Unit-Traffic Sector 1 said the incident involving a Toyota Fortuner SUV and two motorcycles occurred at the corner of Quezon Avenue and West 4th, Brgy. West Triangle at around 7:15 a.m. on Saturday.
Initial investigation disclosed that the SUV and the two motorcycles were all traversing West Avenue from Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) going towards Quezon Avenue.
Upon reaching Quezon Avenue, the suspect’s SUV suddenly rammed the two motorcycles.
The two motorcycle riders and their two passengers sustained injuries. They were rushed to East Avenue Medical Center for medical treatment.
The QCPD identified the victims as Lynard Andamo Alfonso, 44, an Angkas rider from Brgy. Dulong Bayan, San Mateo, Rizal; his passenger, Kazie Caguioa Austria, resident of Brgy. Doña Imelda, Quezon City; Clarence Cabra Garcia, 30; and his passenger Evangeline Ortiz Garcia, 31, both residents of Sitio Mabilog, Quezon City.
Report said that the suspect also attacked the two responding Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic enforcers who flagged down his vehicle.
The suspect scratched the arms of one of the enforcers, and destroed his uniform. He also kicked the other MMDA personnel in the face.
Robles was arrested by other responding traffic enforcers.
Police confirmed that the suspect was drunk after he underwent a Field Sobriety Test and Alcoholic Breath Analyzer (ABA).
The suspect was placed under the police custody and was charged for violation of Republic Act 10586 (Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013).
