Southeast Asian Games medalists Fernando Casares and Raven Alcoseba topped their respective divisions in the National Duathlon Championship 2022 at the New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac Sunday, Dec. 4.

Casares, the reigning SEAG champion in triathlon, brought his act to the 5-kilometer run, 20km bike, 2.5 km run event and timed 58 minutes and three seconds to rule the sprint elite men.
“I tried to break away, but the other guys are strong, too. I somehow opened a gap in the second run and kept that gap so I won,” said Casares.
John Chicano, the 2019 SEAG triathlon champion, crossed the line six seconds after Casares for the silver medal while Maynard Pecson clocked 58:13 for the bronze.
Alcoseba, meanwhile, posted 1 hour, six minutes and 32 seconds to rule the distaff side ahead of Singapore’s Louisa Middleditch (1:07:10) and Merry Joy Trupa (1:08:50).
“It was tough. I tried to break away in the run, but they stayed with me until I found an opening in the transition from the bike,” said Alcoseba, bronze medalist in triathlon at last edition’s SEAG.
Around 103 teams participated including foreign contingents from Australia, Brazil, France, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa and the United States.
Also winning in their respective races were Darell Johnson Bada (men 13-15 super sprint), Wella Mae Coronado (women 13-15 super sprint), Joseff Miguel Quirino (men 16-19 sprint) and Jouvane Samilin (women 16-19 sprint).
The elite division served as the Triathlon Association of the Philippines’ (TRAP) pre-qualifier for the 32nd SEAG in Cambodia next year.
