IT'S THE SMALL THINGS
The last week of the year was spent with those who the first week of the year was welcomed with as well. And in as much as a lot happened in 2022, it is always refreshing to note that some things stay the same (and should stay the same). 2022 was a year of transition – more than in my personal book, for the rest of the world. After a two-year hiatus of all things we were once accustomed to — dare I dub it “pandemic living” — the world finally opened up at a more rapid pace, and travel is back. People are once again able to come back home to spend the holidays with their families, sans quarantine, after being deprived the past two years. Revenge travel for some even, if you will. Truly, these are luxuries we once took for granted, and will never do so again.
Time spent with family is gold, most especially in a world which we discovered can close down beyond our control in a blink of an eye. Health is wealth, and we must never take for granted every moment we have with loved ones. Rather, we must make it a point to transform these ordinary moments into memories. We must continue to be considerate of people’s preferences, practice respect, cherish the small circles, and further strengthen the ties we have forged with those who matter most. And as another year comes to an end, let us be thankful for the return to normalcy — to a world we once knew, a world we had missed, and a world which hopefully grew for the better under the direst and challenging of circumstances.
As the world opens up more and more, let us never forget the small pockets of wisdom and lessons we learned at the time when all our lives came to a halt. How fortunate we are to get to this day, and to live in the moment where we can now look back at 2020 as but a memory — a most unforgettable year — that is entrenched in our hearts, and in our minds forever. We may have lost in many ways – some definitely more than others – but our capacity to love and seek the good also multiplied. And in loving, we always gain and grow.
As we welcome 2023, let us do so with open minds and open hearts. Let us embrace whatever changes and challenges are bestowed upon us because it is after all, the only way to thrive. Let us remember that in a world where the only constant is change, the only avenue towards growth is transforming and bettering ourselves in an ever-evolving world. If there is one thing we should have learned, it is that resilience is key, but so is our ability to adapt and assimilate. These traits are what sets us apart. These are what allow us to make the most out of life, and out of every moment given us.
