Two emergency medical teams and six firefighting volunteers were dispatched by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) in a fire that broke out in Navotas City fish port on New Year's Eve.
PRC said that the volunteers and medical teams were from its Malabon and Caloocan City chapters.
According to a Bureau of Fire Protection report, the fire at Market 3, Navotas Fish Port Complex in Barangay NBBN reached the first alarm at 2:28 p.m. and quickly escalated to the third alarm at 2:35 p.m.
It was declared under control at 5:54 p.m., leaving two injured residents but no fatalities, the bureau added.
There were an estimated 100 houses affected by the incident as per the initial assessment of the PRC team on the ground.
Hot meals and other relief items will be provided for distressed families once the local government unit has designated an official evacuation center, the organization added.
