The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recorded more than 23 percent decline in crime volume in Mimaropa (Occidental and Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) in the first 25 days of this month.
In a statement, Police Regional Office 4B director Brig. Gen. Sidney Sultan Hernia said that from 357 from Dec. 1 to 25 last year, it went down to 274 in the same period this year, or a decrease by 23.25 percent.
Hernia said the decrease was also noted in the eight focus crimes--from 99 last year to 77 this year.
The eight focus crimes are murder, homicide, physical injuries, rape, theft, robbery, carnapping of vehicles and motorcycles.
Among the crimes that showed a remarkable decrease include physical injuries with 45 percent, rape with 44.44 percent, and carnapping with 33.33 percent.
Hernia lauded his men for sticking to the implementation of the anti-crime strategies in the region.
He also assured the public that PNP units in the region will remain visible at all times, especially along all travel routes, transport terminals, and other places of convergence.
Hernia also assured of maximum police presence in places of convergence that also include tourism sites.
