PCG monitors 109K passengers in ports ahead of New Year’s Day


Two days before the New Year’s Day, more than 109,000 passengers trooped to various ports nationwide to go home and spend the last remaining days of the holiday season with their families.

Based on the monitoring of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), a total of 56,425 outbound passengers and 53,430 inbound passengers were recorded in ports from 6 a.m. to 12 noon Friday, Dec. 30.

A total of 1,875 frontline personnel were deployed in 15 Coast Guard districts to ensure all sea vessels that will ply their routes are sea-worthy and in good condition, and safeguard the travelers.

The PCG inspected a total of 301 vessels and 995 motorbancas during the monitoring period.

PCG personnel are on a heightened alert until Jan. 7 as part of their security preparation for the holiday season.
