The Muntinlupa City government urged city residents to celebrate the New Year safely by observing the guidelines issued by the local government.
Mayor Ruffy Biazon reminded the public that the use of firecrackers and open mufflers for motorcycles is banned in Muntinlupa.

"Bawal ang paputok at open mufflers sa Lungsod ng Muntinlupa. May kaukulang multa sa sinumang mahuhuli na lumabag...Hangad natin ang maayos at mapayapang pagdiriwang ng Pasko (Firecrackers and open mufflers are prohibited in Muntinlupa. There will be appropriate penalties for violators; we need these guidelines in order to have a safe and peaceful holiday celebration)," Biazon said.
Muntinlupa City Ordinance No. 14-092 prohibits the sale and use of fireworks while City Ordinance No. 04-022 bans aftermarket open mufflers on vehicles, especially motorcycles.
To implement the two ordinances, the Muntinlupa police deployed personnel to go after violators.
Fire Supt. Eugene Briones of the Muntinlupa City Fire Station reminded parents to ensure the safety of their children.
"Huwag hayaang gumamit ng paputok ang mga bata, at huwag pulutin ang mga paputok (Don't let your children play with firecrackers and don't pick up the unexploded ones as these are dangerous)," Briones said.
Muntinlupa residents are advised to call the Muntinlupa City Emergency Hotline Number 137-175 should they need assistance during the holiday season.
