There is a "good image" of the Filipino people in the international stage of because of the Filipino migrant workers, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. said Friday.
Marcos honored the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) on Rizal Day by spending time with their families at the Malacañan Palace, where he made the pronouncement.
The President said OFWs are making contributions to the country greater than ever by boosting the economy as the country recovers from the Covid-19 crisis.
He also said that it is because of the OFWs that foreigners look up to Filipinos and consider them as one of the competitive people in the world.
"Hindi na isa sa pinakamagagaling, 'yung pinakamagaling at pinakamasipag at pinakamaalagain sa buong mundo (It's not only one of the best and most hardworking, but the best in the whole world)," he also said.
"Talaga naman maipagmamalaki natin na tunay na walang katumbas ang inyong husay, lakas, galing, sipag, kabaitan, at sakripisyo. Kayo ang patunay na kayang magtagumpay ng Pilipino saan mang dako ng mundo mapunta (We can really say that nothing beats the greatness, the strength, the competitiveness, the hardwork, the kindness and the sacrifices of Filipinos. You OFWs prove that Filipinos can succeed wherever part of the world)," he added.
Marcos is a known advocate of migrant workers. During his campaign, he promised to exert efforts to make sure OFWs get back home.
In his foreign trips, the President always meets the Filipino communities at the sidelines of his formal events.
In his remark during the event, the President also pitched for his government's efforts to advance the interest of OFWs.
He said the government is talking about giving free housing and education for the families of OFWs.
With the creation of the Department of Migrant Workers, Marcos also hoped for new policies in terms of taking care of the OFWs.
A performance by OFW Children's Choir, a poetry recital, a gift-giving from OFW children and several games were held during the event.
