Korean actor-singer Lee Seung-gi fulfilled his promise to donate the money that his former agency, Hook Entertainment, owed him for albums and songs he released in the last 18 years.

Lee Seung-gi sued and left Hook Entertainment after learning that the music he released in his career made money contrary to his agency’s claims.

Hook Entertainment deposited 2.9 billion won on Dec. 16 to the star’s account as unpaid payment in addition to 1.3 billion won won and 1.2 billion won as interest for a total of 5.4 billion ($4.3 million).

On the same day, Lee Seung-gi took to Instagram to announce that the money that was deposited in his account will be donated to society.

On Dec. 29, the Seoul National University Children's Hospital announced that Lee Seung-gi donated 2 billion won (about $1.6 million) to the facility to improve medical conditions.

The hospital said Lee Seung-gi donated with the intention of providing a better treatment environment for sick children and their families.

It said Lee Seung-gi’s donation will be used to resolve overcrowding in hospital rooms and improve outdated facilities so that children in the hospital can receive treatment in a pleasant environment. Some of the hospital wards that have been improved will be named after Lee Seung-gi.

“Low birth rate is a matter of national survival, and the healthy growth and happiness of children can create a bright future for the Republic of Korea,” said Lee Seung-gi.

He added, “Since there is a limit to only one-off support, I hope that this sponsorship will serve as an opportunity to build an environment for pediatric and adolescent patients, and draw social attention, and I will continue to pay attention and support so that children can grow up healthy and happy.”

Hospital director Kim Yeon-soo said, “Thank you for making the decision after deeply considering the difficulties of the field, and it has been a great source of strength for me as a medical staff.”

He added, “All faculty and staff at Seoul National University Hospital will work together to help not only treat patients, but also help them grow as a whole, and furthermore, improve the quality of life for their families.”

Lee Seung-gi sponsored treatment costs for pediatric patients in 2019 and 2022 and assistive devices for medical rehabilitation, and continued social contribution activities for children and adolescents, such as donating for the safety of children from low-income families who are vulnerable to Covid-19.
