The provincial government of Bulacan inaugurated the new Tanglaw ng Pag-asa Youth Rehabilitation Center (TPYRC) in Barangay Bulihan, City of Malolos, Bulacan on Thursday, Dec. 29.
Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando led the event, together with Vice Governor Alexis C. Castro and the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).
The new rehabilitation center, which aims to guide children in conflict with the law (CICL) to a better future, has new and improved facilities including 10 dormitories, a library, a clinic, a prayer room, an isolation room, an activity area/mess hall, basketball court, comfort rooms, and laundry area.
The center can accommodate a maximum of 200 individuals aged 15 to 18.
According to TPYRC head Jay Mark P. Chico, the programs being implemented within the center focus on the treatment of youth and groups to help them develop their socially constructive and reproductive behaviour.
The number of youths staying at the rehabilitation center dropped to 55 this year from 150 in 2018.
In his message during the program, Fernando said the Bulacan government will continue to strive in giving psychosocial and therapeutic programs to minor law offenders or the CICL so they can be functional members of society.
While under the care of TPYRC, the CICL are also given access to all needed services including education; moral development; legal assistance; health services; psychological services; nutrition services; spiritual and moral services; livelihood program; home life services; and provision of clothing and personal items.
The programs were designed to help them adjust while they are transitioning back into their communities for reintegration.
The Tanglaw ng Pag-asa Youth Rehabilitation Center is managed and funded by the provincial government of Bulacan through the supervision of the PSWDO.
Throughout the region, only the province of Bulacan has this kind of facility for the CICL.
