Barangay tanod killed in Iloilo road crash

ILOILO CITY — A village watchman or barangay tanod was killed in a road crash in Santa Barbara, Iloilo.

The victim was identified as 38-year-old Jessie Surriga of Barangay Inangayan, Santa Barbara.

The Santa Barbara Municipal Police Station said Surriga was killed late Wednesday night when his motorcycle crashed with a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in the U-turn area in Barangay Cadagmayan.

The driver of the SUV was identified as Elmer Calitisin. He was on his way to the Iloilo Airport in Cabatuan to pick up someone.

Surriga was taken to the nearby Western Visayas Sanitarium and General Hospital (WVSGH) where he died.

Calitisin was arrested but was released when the victim’s family decided not to pursue a legal case and made a settlement.
