Military finds arms cache in Quezon on ex-rebel’s tip-off

QUEZON -- A cache of war materials of the New People's Army (NPA) was discovered by the military in Barangay Lalaguna in Gumaca town on Saturday morning, Dec. 3.

The military discovered the arms cache based on the information given by a former rebel.

The cache contained two M14 rifles, a Garand rifle, five caliber .38 revolvers, improvised explosives devices, six magazines, and assorted ammunition.

The joint 85th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, Quezon Police Provincial Mobile Force Company, and the 2nd Military Intelligence conducted a search operation at the said place.

The informant revealed he was assigned to oversee the said cache and he was with them when it was buried at the said place.

The ex-rebel said it is difficult for the NPA to approach the citizens and they have almost nowhere to hide and ask for help, especially during the times when the 85IB, under Lt. Col. Joel Jonson, and the police intensified their pursuit of the terrorists.

The situation pushed him to turn his back on the goal of the false ideology of the armed struggle, and he preferred to cooperate with the government’s peace plan.
