The Department of Health-Region 2 (Cagayan Valley) has recorded at least 10 firecracker-related injuries as of Thursday, Dec. 29.
“Boga” (improvised cannon) and “kwitis” are still the leading causes of FCRI in the region. Majority of victims are male.
The DOH said nine victims have been treated and have returned to their homes. The 10th is still in the hospital.
Some of them were minors injured by boga.
Most of these cases are from Cagayan and Isabela.
A parent urged the people to celebrate the New Year safely by not using firecrackers. The parent suggested noisemakers such as pots and pans.
