2022 was a sublime year for Mary Joy Apostol.
The up-and-coming actress appeared on both the hit series “2 Good 2 Be True” as Queenie and the film “Doll House” as a grown-up Yumi. Both motion pictures received positive reception and praise. “Ang tawag na sakin ng iba, Best Friend or Yumi,” the actress said in a virtual interview.
Incidentally, one of her projects this year is the short film “A Friend of Mine” for the Wish Date concert by Wish 107.5 and KDR Music House, in which she starred alongside Jameson Blake and Jana Indanan. “Napag-kwentuhan namin nila Jameson na ang gaan ka-work ng Wish.”
The concert premiered the short film exclusively in between live performances from different OPM artists. The actress says she enjoyed the Wish Date concert as a music lover herself, “Tugmang tugma ‘yung music kada eksena.”
One of the highlights of her year is "2 Good 2 Be True" which was made especially memorable by her coworkers, Mary Joy said. The actress recounted how she has learned to live in the present this year: “I just want to enjoy what I have now.”
Apostol focused on her acting career full-time in 2019, but she has been critically acclaimed since 2017, when she won Best Actress at the ASEAN Film Awards in Vietnam for her role and screen debut in “Birdshot.” According to Apostol, the award is the highlight of her acting career so far.
“I believe that if you want something, you have to put your 100 percent into it.” But aside from all her hardwork, Apostol says she also has her supportive fans and family to thank for her steady rise. “Naniniwala ako na hindi ko mararating ‘to kundi dahil sa suporta ng fans and family. Isa sila sa mga motivations ko para mas pagbutihin ko pa lalo sa mga projects ko.”
