The local government units of Malabon and Quezon City have designated areas in their cities where firecrackers and fireworks use will be allowed during the celebration of the New Year.
In a letter submitted by Malabon City Public Safety and Traffic Management Office Chief (Ret.) Col. Reynaldo Medina Jr. to Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval on Dec. 28, the recommended “common firecracker areas” in the city are Plaza Diwa in Barangay Tugatog and Malabon People’s Park in Barangay Catmon.
Sandoval approved the recommendation on the same day.
The city government said City Ordinance No.31 enacted in Dec. 2020 that imposes a total ban on the manufacture, sale, distribution, possession, use, or play of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices in all places within the territorial jurisdiction of Malabon City is still in effect.
Individuals who will be caught violating the firecracker ban will be fined P1,000 under the ordinance.
In Quezon City, the local government encouraged on Wednesday, Dec. 28, QCitizens to only watch firecrackers and fireworks display it prepared on New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, in the different authorized areas in the city
The fireworks display will be held at the Quezon Memorial Circle, Eastwood City Open Park, Robinsons Novaliches, SM City Fairview, SM City North EDSA (Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue), and SM City Novaliches.
On Dec. 24, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte issued Executive Order No. 54, S-2022 that prohibits the use of firecrackers and fireworks for every private household to prevent firework-related injuries in welcoming the new year.

Meanwhile, the Valenzuela City government said that each of the city's 33 barangays will have their own firecracker zones.
The city government encouraged residents to use safe alternatives to firecrackers, hold online New Year celebrations, and immediately bring those who will suffer injuries due to firecrackers to the nearest hospital in their area.
