The Las Piñas city government mobilized barangay personnel in the city’s 20 barangays for the strict implementation of the firecracker ban.
Mayor Imelda Aguilar said the city will strictly implement City Ordinance 1484 which has been in effect since 2007 banning the use of all kinds of firecrackers during the celebration of the New Year.
The barangay personnel were ordered to conduct regular patrolling to monitor compliance to the ordinance and report violations to the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO).
The BPLO was also asked by Aguilar to dispatch personnel to confiscate all firecrackers and pyrotechnics being displayed, sold, and distributed within the city.
Aguilar said violators of the city ordinance may be fined P1,000 to P5,000 or face imprisonment of up to 3 to 6 months.
She said the city government has been implementing the city ordinance prohibiting the manufacture, display, sale, distribution, possession or use of firecrackers, pyrotechnic devices, and other similar devices since 2017.
The mayor also said the City Health Office (CHO) was also directed to intensify the conduct of information campaigns about the danger of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices to life, limb, property, and environment.
The mayor said community fireworks displays will be allowed provided that the organizers will secure a permit to possess and display fireworks from the local police and the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP).
Aguilar said the fireworks displays shall be conducted in an open area at a distance of 100 feet away from the people and all fireworks shall be projected upward.
The mayor added that a responsible person or persons, at least 21 years old, and with adequate knowledge of handling fireworks, shall be assigned to supervise the fireworks display.
She said sufficient approved type of first aid and fire protection equipment shall be on hand at the site and the nearest fire station shall be notified of the exhibition.
