A low pressure area (LPA) and the northeast monsoon may bring rains over some parts of the country in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, Dec. 28.
PAGASA estimated the location of the LPA at 475 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur around 3 a.m. on Wednesday.
The weather bureau is not ruling out the possibility that the weather disturbance may develop into a tropical depression.
However, whether it becomes a tropical cyclone not, the LPA is still expected to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over Palawan, Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and Davao Region within 24 hours.
PAGASA also said that the northeast monsoon, locally called “amihan,” may cause cloudy and rainy weather in Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, Quezon, and Bicol region.
It warned those in areas affected by the LPA and amihan to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon may have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light amihan rains.
The rest of Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
The public is advised to remain vigilant as severe thunderstorms may also cause flash floods or landslides, especially in areas prone to these hazards.
