Christmas in Eastern Visayas generally peaceful – police

TACLOBAN CITY – The Police Regional Office 8 said the Christmas celebration in Eastern Visayas this year was generally peaceful.

Brig. Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, PRO 8 director, said no major untoward incident was recorded during the nine-dawn “Simbang Gabi” (dawn Mass) and Christmas Eve celebration.

PRO 8 has been on full alert status in accordance with “Oplan: Ligtas Paskuhan 2022” – an initiative to strengthen security measures for the holiday season.

Marbil said they activated their security plan to ensure public’s safety during Christmas.

He said 847 augmentation personnel have been deployed to different provinces and cities in the region.

Police Assistance Desks (PADs) had been established while mobile and foot patrol personnel were mobilized in anticipation of the influx of people in public places such as malls and churches.

“We encourage the public to cooperate with our authorities in the peaceful celebration of the Yuletide season. Rest assured that we are on alert 24/7 during the holidays," Marbil said.
