BIR revamps top NCR officials in preparation for 2023 tax drive

The Bureau of Internal Revenue ((BIR) has revamped 17 regional directors and other key field officials based in Metro Manila and other cities.

BIR Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui, Jr. said the reorganization is in preparation for next year's intensified tax campaign and was approved by Finance Secretary Benjamin E. Diokno.

Lumagui signed the two-page travel assignment order to support the almost P5.3 trillion outlay of the national government for 2023.

The Department of Budget Coordination Committee fixed the 2023 collection target of the BIR at P2.6 trillion.

"The BIR management is aware of the its crucial role in nation building being the premier source of funds for the government," said a high-ranking revenue official who declined to be named.

Among those transferred to sensitive posts were: Maridur V. Rosario, from large taxpayers service (LTS) assistant commissioner to deputy commissioner for operations; Jethro M. Sabariaga, from director South National Capital Region (NCR) to assistant commissioner LTS.

Regional Directors Edgar B. Tolentino, from East NCR to South NCR; Albin M. Galanza, from Manila to East NCR; Claire B. Corpus, from Laguna-Quezon-Marinduque (LaQueMar) to Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR); Josephine S. Virtucio, from CAR to Calasiao, Pangasinan.

Regional Directors Douglas A. Rufino, from Calasiao, Pangasinan to Cebu City; Antonio Jonathan G. Jaminola, from Pampanga to Tuguegarao City; Emmanuel S. Ferrer, Jr., from Cebu City to Pampanga.

Assistant Regional Directors Renato M. Molina and Dondanon A. Galera were promoted as regional directors of Manila and LaQueMar, respectively.

Lawyer Rufino C. Cantaros, Jr. was named chief-of-staff office of the commissioner. He used to be the chief-of-staff of the deputy commissioner.
