The Philippine National Police (PNP) is now conducting an investigation into how a police sergeant tagged in the P6.7 billion shabu bust in Manila two months ago was able to return to its drug enforcement unit.
This, amid rumors that a ranking police official was the one who requested that Police Master Sgt. Rodolfo Mayo be returned to the PNP Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEG).
Mayo yielded two kilos of shabu in drug bust in Quiapo, Manila and was the owner of the lending agency in Sta. Ana, Manila where almost 1,000 kilos of shabu were confiscated in October this year.
"We are conducting investigation to determine the reason why he was returned (to PDEG)," said Azurin.
Azurin was reacting to the statement of former PNP chief and now Sen. Ronald dela Rosa that "ninja cops", or those involved in the recycling of drugs, already returned in the police organization.
According to dela Rosa, Mayo was among the policemen that were re-assigned to Mindanao for supposed involvement in illegal drugs activity in 2016.
Mayo was assigned to the intelligence unit of the PDEG in Metro Manila when he was arrested.
While Azurin would not disclose the names of the police official who requested for Mayo's return to PDEG, he said everything will be looked into in the conduct of the investigation.
"If there's malice in the request for his (Mayo's) return (to PDEG), then we will remove him (from his current position). We should be fair in the conduct of the investigation," said Azurin.
