Seven new fireworks-related injuries were recorded by the Department of Health (DOH) bringing the total to 32 as of Wednesday, Dec. 28.
The cumulative tally of cases was 39 percent higher than what was recorded during the same period last year with only 23 cases.
Of the 32 cases, seven were recorded in the Western Visayas. Four cases each were recorded in Bicol Region and Soccsksargen.
On the other hand, Central Visayas and the National Capital Region had three cases each, while Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, and Davao Region logged two cases each.
Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, and Cordillera Administrative Region recorded one case each.
"Sixteen cases sustained eye injuries while two cases had blast/burn injuries with amputation. Twenty-three cases were actively involved. Twenty-two injuries occurred at home while ten occurred in the street," the DOH noted.
"Five cases were allegedly intoxicated with alcohol at the time of injury. Four cases were hospitalized. No death was reported," it added.
The leading causes of injuries were due to the use of boga, whistle bomb, five-star, kwitis, and camara, the DOH said.
“Umiwas sa paputok para maaaring magdiwang nang kumpleto at ligtas ang buong pamilya ngayong Pasko at Bagong Taon (Avoid the use of fireworks so that families can celebrate Christmas and New Year safely),” the DOH reminded the public.
