A motorcycle rider was arrested by operatives of the Manila Police District (MPD) after hitting two minors and firing a gun while evading arrest in Malate district on Sunday, Dec. 25.
The police identified the suspect as Norberto de Chavez, a delivery rider and resident of San Andres St., Malate Manila.
According to the police report, De Chavez on board a motorcycle hit two minors aged four and 12 who were waiting for a jitney ride along Anakbayan St.
The suspect then hurriedly stood up and fled.
Upon reaching Quirino Highway, however, he drew his firearm and fired shots at the ground, causing panic in the area.
A bystander who heard the commotion scuffled with De Chavez for the gun until the police arrived and arrested him.
The police recovered from De Chavez a .38-caliber revolver without serial number loaded with five live ammunitions and the fired cartridge. The suspect failed to present documents proving his ownership of the gun and its legalities.
The recovered firearm was brought to the MPD Forensic Unit for ballistic examination and to the Firearms and Explosive Office (FEO) for verification.
De Chavez was charged for violations of Art 263 (Physical Injury), Art .151 (Alarms and Scandal), and RA 10591 (Illegal Possession of Firearm and Ammunition).
