DSWD extends P3.2-M worth of aid to flood-affected Bicol, Visayas, Mindanao

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to provide assistance to families and individuals affected by the heavy rains brought by the shear line and northeast monsoon.
As of Dec. 26, the DSWD provided at least P3.2 million worth of humanitarian assistance—food and non-food aid—to Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Caraga.
The DSWD said that the shear line and northeast monsoon affected 34,751 families or 133,443 people in the three regions.
The shear line is a boundary line where cold and warm air meet, while the northeast monsoon, locally called “amihan,” is the cold and dry air coming from the northeast.
Of those affected, the DSWD said that 12,154 families or 51,386 people are currently living in 142 evacuation centers in the affected regions.
Meanwhile, DSWD Field Office V reported that the floods have affected around 17,100 families or 69,042 individuals in the Bicol region.
DSWD field offices reported their respective disaster response operations, including the provision of family food packs and non-food items, and pre-positioning status of relief goods in different localities in an emergency meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 27.
