The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed nine multi-purpose facilities in Central Iloilo.
DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno said the multi-purpose buildings were built in various local communities in Sta. Barbara, Leon, and Alimodian and were funded with P44.5 million.
They were located in barangays Camambugan, Balibagan Este, and Agusipan in Sta. Barbara; Cuyad and Ulay Bugang in Alimodian; and Isian Victoria, Barasan, Coyugan Sur, and Nagbangi in Leon.
Bueno said the nine multi-purpose facilities will serve as shelter and evacuation areas for the local residents especially in times of disasters, adding that the structures can also be used for sports and socio-civic activities.
Each facility has necessary amenities such as a whole court provision, comfort rooms and water and electricity supplies.
“Aside from being a conducive venue for social gatherings and barangay affairs, the buildings can also serve as temporary evacuation centers during calamities. Especially for families living in flood-prone or landslide-prone areas, as well as temporary storage facilities for crops and agricultural products during harvesting season,” said Bueno.
