54 former rebels sign pledge of allegiance to gov’t in Laguna


LAGUNA – A total of 54 former New People’s Army members, including 21 who have just surrendered, expressed their full support to the government by signing the pledge of allegiance and covenant denouncing their former underground movement on Monday, Dec. 26, at Camp Macario Sakay in Los Banos.

Of the 21 who had just surrendered, 17 belonged to Ganap na Kasapi (GK), and four were Kandidatong Kasapi (KK).

Their surrender was facilitated by the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 4A, 1st and 2nd Laguna Provincial Mobile Force Companies, Regional Intelligence Division 4A, 34th Special Action Company, Palanan Sub-Station and Intelligence Section Makati City Police, Philippine Army’s 202nd Infantry Brigade, 59th Infantry Battalion, and 2nd Civil Military Operation Battalion Task Force Ugnay.

The 33 former rebels participated to show their support and they received a Christmas gift.

The said effort was a result of inter-unit collaboration and hard work of the police operatives, together with the AFP counterparts on the ground under the strategic guidance and instruction to actively pursue and support the Peace and Security Framework Program of the Philippine National Police to intensify operation and dismantling of Communist Terrorists Group (CTG) in Southern Luzon.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Agosto Asuncion, head of the RMFB4A, assured that the government will protect and help those who surrendered return to normal lives in the community.

In Quezon, a rebel with a warrant of arrest was arrested and another two surrendered to the authorities in Real and Gen. Nakar towns on Monday, Dec. 26.

Wally Agudez, a member of Sub-Regional Military Area 4A (SRMA4A), was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest for the crime of attempted murder by the operatives of 1st Quezon Provincial Mobile Force Company at Barangay Capalong in Real town.

Recovered from him were a rifle grenade, 1.5 liters bottle containing a powder substance believed to be ammonium nitrate, and 20 inches detonating cord.

Alias ‘Isaac,’ 37 and a resident of Sitio Balete, Barangay Concepcion Banahaw in Sariaya, and a vice-squad leader, and alias ‘Ente,’ 64, a member of NPA’s Apolonio Logronio Mendoza Command and a resident of Sitio Mapuputi, Barangay Liwayway in Mauban town, surrendered to 405th Maneuvers Company headquarter at Barangay Anoling in Gen. Nakar town. They turned over a caliber .45 pistol and a caliber .38 revolver with bullets and subversive documents.
