BACOLOD CITY – A tricycle driver was injured after a firecracker exploded in his right hand in Bago City, Negros Occidental on Christmas Day, Dec. 25.

The victim was a 45-year-old resident of Barangay Sampinit.
A report from the Negros Occidental police said the victim had a drinking session with a relative when his brother reportedly lighted a whistle bomb.
However, the victim took the lighted firecracker which exploded.
He was taken to Bago City Hospital and was later transferred to a private hospital here.
Meanwhile, Lt. Judesses Catalogo, spokesperson of the Negros Occidental police, said Christmas in the province was generally peaceful.
“The public opted to celebrate Christmas in the most peaceful manner, with no significant incident reported. It was generally peaceful,” he added.
Catalogo said the early deployment of policemen, the involvement of the stakeholders, and cooperation of the public can be attributed to the peaceful Christmas celebration.
He also said that the cold weather had a major effect as the atmosphere was subtle.
