CEBU CITY – Cancellation of sea trips left several passengers spending their Christmas in an evacuation center in Danao City, northern Cebu.
Mitch Mondigo, public information officer of the Danao City government, said a total of 99 individuals stayed at the city’s evacuation center after trips from Danao to Camotes Island were suspended from Dec. 24 to 25.
The Philippine Coast Guard District-Central Visayas (PCGD-7) on Christmas Eve ordered the suspension of sea voyages due to the gale warning enforced in the seaboards of Region 7.
Mondigo said a notice on the cancellation of trips due to rough seas was posted inside the Danao Passenger Terminal.
Mondigo said concerned individuals visited the evacuation center and distributed food to the stranded passengers on Christmas Eve.
The PCG-7 reported that about 1,000 passengers were also stranded in the ports of San Remigio, Tabuelan, and Cordova on Christmas Day.
The island of Cebu has been experiencing inclement weather in the past few days.
