Man attempting to rescue relatives swept away by waves in Pangasinan

BINMALEY, Pangasinan -- A 32-year-old man went missing while attempting to rescue six relatives from being swept away by waves in a beach here on Monday, Dec. 26.

A rescue operation is being undertaken by personnel of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office as of posting time for Jonald Soriano of Barangay Bacnar, San Carlos City, Pangasinan.

Police said that Soriano was watching his relatives swimming at around 8:30 a.m. when waves carried them away.

He immediately dived into the sea to save them from drowning but he was also swept away by the waves.

His relatives were rescued and three of them were taken to a hospital for observation.

Three others were attended to by rescuers on the spot.
