ALLACAPAN, Cagayan – A 34-year-old father of two died in a fire that razed his home in Zone 4, Barangay Utan, here on Christmas Eve.
A report from the Cagayan Provincial Police Office said the fire happened at 11 p.m. but was only reported to the police on Monday, Dec. 26.
Case officer Staff Sgt. Sherwin Valdez said the victim, identified only as “Melvin,” had just finished a drinking session with his friends when the fire struck his house made of light materials.
The victim’s two children were not around and were spending Christmas with relatives.
His charred body was recovered in a mopping-up operation.
Melvin’s wife has been working overseas for almost three months.
Police and the Bureau of Fire Protection-Allacapan said the fire was caused by electrical short circuit. Damage to property was not disclosed.
