The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of a flood control structure along the Malupa-Dian-Aguang River in Baler, Aurora which offers protection to coconut plantations and communities from perennial flooding.

DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said Monday, Dec. 26, that the DPWH Aurora District Engineering Office (DEO) in Central Luzon completed the construction of a 746-meter river wall along the section of the Malupa-Dian-Aguang River in Barangay Reserva.
The five-meter high revetment wall was built on steel sheet pile foundation which is supported by a grouted riprap built on the rear side, with an access ramp that can be used by farmers, and a single box culvert, the DPWH stated.
DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller Tolentino explained that the river control structure keeps the river from overflowing during heavy rains while providing better protection to the coconut plantations and farmlands located near the river.
Flooding woes have long been a source of headache for local government officials in Aurora. But with the river wall, the DPWH noted that the structure will help minimize possible casualties, agricultural losses, and damage to properties brought about by river flooding during the rainy season.
The P91.68 million Malupa-Dian-Aguang River Control Structure in Barangay Reserva was built through the funds sourced from the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
