
ILOILO CITY – Nineteen houses were damaged and 200 residents were displaced in a fire that hit a densely populated barangay here on Monday, Dec. 26.
The Iloilo City Operations Center said 13 houses were totally damaged while six were partially damaged in the fire in Barangay Veterans Village, City Proper district.
A spot report from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Iloilo City said the fire damaged residential homes and boarding houses.
The fire which started around 5:30 a.m. and was under control less than an hour later reportedly originated in one of the boarding houses.
The BFP-Iloilo City has yet to determine the cause of the fire.
This is the second major fire incident here this Christmas. On Christmas Eve, several homes were razed in two neighboring barangays in Molo District.
The Iloilo City Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO) said 112 persons were affected in the fire.
The Iloilo CSWDO assured that fire victims will receive substantial aid from the city government.
