Five people were injured due to firecrackers from Dec. 21 to 25, the Department of Health (DOH) said.
The DOH said that the number is lower compared to the 10 injuries recorded during the same period last year.
"Sa kasalukuyan, ang kabuuang bilang ng mga kaso ng pinsala dulot ng paputok ay lima na sa ngayon ay 50 percent na mas mababa kumpara sa naitala noong nakaraang taon sa sakop na petsa (Currently, the total number of cases related to firecrackers is now five which is 50 percent lower compared to what was recorded last year during the same period)," the DOH posted on its official Facebook page.
The public was advised to safely celebrate the holiday season by avoiding the use of firecrackers, the DOH said.
"Umiwas sa paputok para maaaring magdiwang nang kumpleto at ligtas ang buong pamilya ngayong Pasko at Bagong Taon! (Avoid using fireworks in order for families to celebrate Christmas and New Year safely)," the DOH said.
Earlier, the DOH said there is a downward trend in the number of fireworks-related injuries.
“Pag tiningnan natin in the previous years (When we look at the previous years), you can see the trend is going down. It means yung ating mga kababayan ay naiimbibe na po nila yung (that our citizens have imbibed the) right behavior in terms of celebrating our New Year season,” said DOH Officer-in-Charge Maria Rosario Vergeire.
The DOH assured the public that hospitals nationwide are ready to manage and treat injuries related to fireworks.
“We have a robust surveillance system for our fireworks injuries and meron po tayong mga (and we have) facilities aside from our hospitals are ready for the management na kailangan (that is needed),” said Vergeire.
