Shear line, ‘amihan’ to bring scattered rains in most parts of PH – PAGASA

The northeast monsoon, locally called “amihan,” and the shear line will continue to bring cloudy skies and scattered rains in most parts of the country in the next 24-hour period, the state weather bureau said on Saturday, Dec. 24.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Weather Specialist Daniel Villamil said the low pressure area (LPA) being monitored inside the country’s boundary has already dissipated. Currently, two weather systems are affecting the country: the northeast monsoon and the shear line.

“Patuloy ang pag-iral ng northeast monsoon sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon. Makikita rin natin sa ating latest satellite images itong makakapal na kaulapan sa silangang bahagi ng ating bansa epekto ng shear line (The northeast monsoon continues to affect most of Luzon. As we can also see in our latest satellite images, there are thick clouds in the eastern part of the country due to the shear line),” said Villamil in a public weather forecast.

The shear line, an area where the cold and warm winds meet, is particularly affecting eastern Visayas, Bicol Region, Palawan, Dinagat Islands, and the rest of Visayas.

Residents of the previously mentioned places may expect cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rain showers and thunderstorms. PAGASA strongly advised individuals residing in these areas to be vigilant against possible hazards such as flooding and rain-induced landslides.

The northeast monsoon, on the other hand, is blowing cold winds and bringing cloudy skies with rains in Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, Quezon, Metro Manila, and the rest of Luzon.

“Sa Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon ay mas maaliwalas na panahon ang ating mararanasan. Kung may pag ulan, ito ay light rains lamang (We can expect fair weather in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon. If it rains, it will be light rain only),” Villamil furthered.

Meanwhile, partly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers may prevail over the rest of Mindanao due to localized thunderstorms.
