PH crime volume down by 14.42% on first 20 days of December- PNP
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recorded a 14.42 percent reduction in crime volume across the country in the first 20 days of December this year.
PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin, Jr. said that from 10,643 total crime volume from Dec. 1 to 20 last year, it went down to 9,108 cases in the same period this year, or a 14.42 percent reduction.
He said the reduction was recorded in eight focus crimes which include murder, homicide, physical injury, robbery, theft, vehicle theft, motorcycle theft, and rape--which have overall decrease of 694 or 29.79 percdent, from 2,330 in 2021 to 1,636 this year comparing same period.
Among the eight focus crimes, the top three most prevalent crimes from Dec. 1 to 20 this year were theft, rape and physical injury with recorded cases of 609, 262 and 211.
These were lower than the previous year, with 710, 567 and 331 cases respectively.
"The downward trend of crimes can be attributed to the maximum deployment of PNP personnel nationwide especially this long holiday season where the community can really feel the police presence everywhere. Further, the decrease can also be attributed to the aggressive anti-illegal drugs campaign by the government," said Azurin.
Azurin also disclosed that crime solution efficiency for 2022 has improved as compared to the previous year and it can be attributed to the E-Projects such as the e-Rouge, e-Blotter, e-Warrant, and the dedication and passion of investigators.
Based on the DIDM data, the Crime Solution Efficiency (CSE) in 2021 improved by 3.93 percent from 78.54 percent to 82.47 percent.
