CEBU CITY -- A passenger ferry ran aground while it was about to arrive at the port of Tubigon, Bohol on Friday morning, Dec. 23.

MV Fastcat M20 ferry carrying 289 passengers, crew members and 35 rolling cargoes left Cebu past 3 a.m. and ran aground around 5 a.m.
Lt. Junior Grade Stephen Pagcaliwagan, information officer of the Philippine Coast Guard-Central Visayas (PCG-7), said rescue operations started past 9 a.m.
It took more than four hours before all passengers were brought to the port of Tubigon using smaller boats.
Pagcaliwagan said there were no reports of oil spill in the area.
“There are also no reported injuries from the passengers or crew members,” said Pagcaliwagan.
Because of the incident, Fastcat management canceled four of their Cebu-Tubigon trips.
The incident happened while hundreds of passengers started crowding port terminals.
The Cebu Port Authority reported that since Dec. 20, over 35,000 outbound passengers were recorded to arrive in various ports in Cebu.
Authorities are expecting the volume of passengers to further increase as Christmas Day draws near.
