Bicol logs first fireworks-related injury


LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – The Bicol region has logged its first fireworks-related injury this holiday season.

The Department of Health (DOH)-Bicol said in the latest Firework-Related Injury (FWRI) surveillance bulletin on Friday morning, Dec. 23, that the victim was a boy less than five-years-old from Camarines Sur.

He was injured by an improvised cannon or “boga” on Dec. 21 and was taken to the Bicol Medical Center in Naga City.

The DOH said Bicol recorded one fireworks-related injury from Dec. 21 to 23 compared to none during the same period in 2020 and 2021.

Bicol recorded 37 fireworks-related injuries in 2019.
