Daily average passengers at PH ports hit over 50,000

The daily average of passengers going to various ports across the country is now at 50,400, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) disclosed on Thursday, Dec, 22,

In a statement, PPA General Manager Jay Santiago said the figure of 50,400 passengers average passengers in 25 port management offices across the country is higher than the 40,400 faily average recorded last week.

Based on the PPA data, the top five ports with most number of passengers were Panay/Guimaras, Batangas, Mindoro, Surigao and Negros Occidental/Siquijor.Santiago, however, expressed confidence that they could very well handle the influx of passengers following the cancellation of leaves of their personnel and placing all their security personnel under the highest alert status.

"We are now operating 24/7. Aside from that, our CCTVs are also working and even the body-worn cameras of our security personnel," said Santiago.

More or less 3,000 port police personnel and force multipliers have been deployed since last week in anticipation of the influx of passengers for the Christmas exodus.
