Bong Go confident there are more honest police officials; urges PNP, DILG to address re-emergence of ‘ninja cops’

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has urged the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to continue maintaining discipline among the country’s police force and other law enforcement units.

Go made the call amid reports of the re-emergence of “ninja cops” or police officers who are involved in illegal drugs.

“Trabaho po ng pamunuan ng PNP and of course, ang ating secretary of DILG na silipin, tingnan nang mabuti at disiplinahin ang kanilang hanay kung sakali mang totoo na bumalik ang ninja cops (It is the job of the PNP leadership and of course, our secretary of DILG to take a look, look carefully and discipline their ranks if it is true that the ninja cops are back),” said Go in a recent interview in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro.

But Go maintained he believes there are still more trustworthy officers who perform their duties with honesty and integrity despite the actions of a few dishonest ones.

“Disiplinahin po, mas alam po nila ang kanilang trabaho. Ako naman, naniniwala akong mas maraming pulis na matitino, maaayos magtatrabaho lalung-lalo na po noong panahon ni (dating) pangulong (Rodrigo) Duterte, talagang disiplinado ang mga pulis (Discipline is needed, they know their job better. As for me, I believe that there are more policemen who are trustworthy, and are able to work, especially during the time of (former) president (Rodrigo) Duterte, the policemen were really disciplined),” said Go.

“At hindi magiging successful ang kampanya ni (dating) pangulong Duterte na labanan po ang iligal na droga at kriminalidad kung hindi po sa tulong ng ating mga pulis (And former President Duterte's campaign to fight illegal drugs and criminality will not be successful if not with the help of our police),” he reiterated.

“Ako po ay naniniwala na kaya nilang linisin ang sarili nilang hanay ( I believe that they can clean up their own ranks,” the senator stressed.

Go made the call following the reported arrest of M/Sgt. Rodolfo Mayo Jr., of the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEU) who was arrested in October this year in a drug bust of P6.7-billion worth of crystal methamphetamine or "shabu.”

According to Senator Ronald dela Rosa, chair of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, he has discussed the issue with Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos, who gave him the assurance that the DILG will further apprehend any officials involved in any illegal drug activity.
