ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Zamboanga City government has allowed the use of pyrotechnics and fireworks display effective on Tuesday, Dec. 20, after the requisite publication and ordinance was signed into law by Mayor John Dalipe.
Ordinance 596 is known as the “Professional Display of Pyrotechnics or Commercial Fireworks Regulatory Ordinance of the City of Zamboanga.”
The ordinance still bans the use, sale, possession, distribution, storage, and manufacture of firecrackers and consumer pyrotechnics in this city under an existing edict.
The new law, however, allows professional display pyrotechnics or commercial fireworks subject to the issuance of a requisite permit by the Office of the City Administrator and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
The ordinance was signed in time for the 2023 holidays where fireworks are commonly used for celebrations.
The permit for operation of professional display pyrotechnics and fireworks may be granted on Dec. 24 to 25, Dec. 31 to Jan. 1, Chinese New Year, Eid’l Fitr, Eid’l Adha, Dia de Zamboanga, Zamboanga Hermosa Festival, and other special occasions or celebrations subject to existing guidelines.
