SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – The Department of Public Works and Highways has completed two flood control projects in Mangatarem and Dagupan City to strengthen the defense of flood-risk communities in Pangasinan.

In her report to DPWH-Ilocos Regional Director Ronnel M. Tan, District Engineer (DE) Edita L. Manuel said that a 341-lineal meter riverbank protection structure was completed on the Agno River Basin in Barangay Dorongan Valerio, Mangatarem to protect residents and agricultural lands against flood damage.

“Mangatarem has the biggest land area in the province of Pangasinan. It has known protected land areas that has natural hot springs, but barangays located along the Agno River are vulnerable to flooding, especially during heavy rains and typhoons,” Manuel said.

The flood control riverbank protection project in Barangay Pantal, Dagupan City was upgraded to ease perennial flooding.

A 148.95-lineal meter steel sheet pile with capping at the mouth of the Pantal River below the Pantal Bridge reinforced flood defense walls and strengthened defense against flood.
